Nestling in the sleepy, unspoilt village of Maleme, with a backdrop of the White Mountains and a beautiful adjoining orange grove, Maleme Villa offers a luxury, tranquil Cretan village holiday. The villa is located at the edge of a village, ensuring a peaceful, relaxing stay; a five minutes stroll through the rustic village leads to the beach, taverns and shops. The villa has been lovingly and tastefully restored to maintain its original charm and character whilst importantly incorporating all the facilities you would expect for modern day living and more.
Next to a lovely orange grove, to the side of the property, in the pretty walled-garden, is the swimming pool and jacuzzi. Enjoy pool-side lounging on the wooden deck which has a range of comfortable furniture. Take a break for drinks and snacks in the impressive pool-house, which has a kitchen and a sleeping area; or enjoy an outdoor meal from the gas barbecue. To truly pamper yourself go below the pool-house and really relax in your very own luxury steam room. Shower and toilet facilities are also located here.
The layout of the villa is a little complicated as, before the restoration, half of the building was a house while the other half was a stable. Now at the ground floor there are two fully equipped kitchens, a spacious lounge with vaulted ceiling and a formal dining area that can comfortably seat six people. Stairs from the lounge lead to a romantic double bedroom on a stunning mezzanine floor. Beyond the dining area is a small, beautiful bay-windowed conservatory in which you can relax, read or just take a nap. At the same floor there are two bathrooms and a twin bedroom with French door leading to a back yard. On the first floor there are a bathroom and a double bedroom with a private balcony.
Luxury and high quality
The restoration was made to the highest quality and the villa was equipped with all the amenities. Dish washers, washing machines and the clothes dryer will make your life easier, the on-line computer and the fax will help you stay in touch with back home and the pool, the Jacuzzi and the Turkish bath promise you relaxing holidays.
The villa is ideal for families with teenage children who can enjoy their own space whilst remaining in the heart of the family holiday

Early Autumn Bliss
Stella offered great advice about places to visit - both in walking distance and car/bus journey away. Worth a visit - a late evening stroll along to the German cemetery. By car, the Botanical gardens and gorge are beautiful, if you're up for a hike! A boat trip to the idyllic Balos Bay is a must! Buses into Chania very efficient and bus stop close to villa. Chania is stunning both day and night. Local supermarket all you need and very friendly local butcher. We did have a kitten visitor named 'Iris' by our children - who didn't enter the villa, but was very playful in the garden.
We departed with some delicious olive oil gifts from Stella. A fabulous stay, enjoyed by all and comes highly recommended.
Fantastic house, disappointing location
Unfortunately, we were very disappointed with the location. Given the price we payed for 1 week (2610€) we were surprised that a lot of the surrounding area was run down. Many of the houses in the same street are derelict/ruins and the whole village of Maleme has seen better days. Lots of shops/buildings on the main strip are empty. We were also very disappointed at the ugly, stony beach. Cant really understand why no one points this out. There are fantastic beaches on the Island but you need a hire car to get to them. The neighbours were very noise sensitive as far as we were concerned. They didnt seem to mind about their own barking dogs but our laughing was not appreciated. They complained on several occasions (even when we were out all day!) and that had a negative impact on our enjoyment of the holiday.
Crete was fantastic. In general, very friendly people and food and weather were perfect. We all said we would return to the island but we cannot recommend the house because of the rundown location and unfriendly neighbours. For that reason (offset by the high price) we rate the overall experiece as average.
The pool is great and has a shallow end making it suitable for families with young children, as well as a fantastic pool house. The gardens are beautiful, well maintained and include an excellent brick-built BBQ.
We didn't hire a car as the Villa is well within walking distance to the beach and local shops and regular public transport links to Chania and other villages/resorts. If you were to hire a car there is plenty of space for parking next to the Villa.
Maleme Villa is a fabulous place to stay and is suitable for families with children (of all ages) or groups of adults. Highly recommended!
My daughters loved the pool house and we spent most of our time sitting around the pool there.
There are a number of local cats who will try to sneak into the house if you are not vigialnt so best not to leave anything that they might suspect of being edible because they will try, even if it isn't.
The location is good, there are a few minimarkets and a bakery that you can reach on foot or a short drive. The walk down to the beach is easy, my advice would be to ignore the first couple of restaurants and head to the beach, the Wave restaurant seemed the best to us.
All in all it was just what we wanted and I would definitely return.
Fantastic Maleme Villa
Almost everything was perfect: the location, the house, the poolhouse, the pool, the garden, the barbecue. And of course our hostess!
We only lacked one thing: more furnitures in the garden. There were no furnitures at the terrace outside the livningroom and the small terrace outside the small bedroom on the first floor. We would also like some furnitures at the roofterrace.
We will absolutely recommend this villa!
Beautiful villa, wonderful stay!
The owner is very friendly and met us at the villa even though we didn't arrive till late. We were really pleased with the 'welcome pack' of food and tea/coffee as it was too late to go to the shops.
We hired a car and saw some of the island(which is beautifully) although as it is so big we saw only a few places.
We would definitely recommend this villa and hope to go back some day
Shops, tavernas and beach easy walk. Good base to explore western Crete if you wish.
sad to leave
Merci encore 1000 fois Stella.
More than we could have expected
We had a hire car for the week we stayed but we didn't leave the villa for 3 days because we were so relaxed and comfortable. We ate out most evenings and we can strongly recommend Mike's hotel and restaurant, which is on the main road. Turn left when you get to the bike hire place and it's a short stroll to Mike's.
The only downside is that we had to come home. I just hope that we can go back again one day and, if we can, we'll definitely book for a fortnight.
spring in Crete
As a family, with four teenagers, the location worked for everyone, with ample space to relax around the pool, or stroll down to the beach.
This was the first time that we didn't hire a car on holiday, and we pre booked a mini bus from the airport both ways, and used the superb, air-conditioned coaches to visit Chania, which is a beautiful day/night out.
Our holiday was a total success, although we could have stayed a lot longer! We hope to return again, and would recommend this wonderful home to allow you to enjoy your Greek holiday.
Perfect base for a wonderful family holiday
Perfect family holiday
The villa was immaculate and beautifully furnished. There are 2 fully furnished kitchens, which we found very useful. The pool house was adopted by our 21 year old. We had free run of the orange grove and lemon tree and made freshly squeezed juice for breakfast every day.The pool was heaven on hot days and we made full use of it.
Near to the villa, on the way down to the beach, there is a lovely restaurant called 'Perasma'. The lady who owns it is a real character. We ate there twice and especially loved the hot vine leaves. A nice little touch was the small ice creams we were given after each meal. The night before we left, she gave me and my mum a bottle of aperitif each.
Within walking distance from the villa is a tavern called 'The Black Lantern' which is owned by an English man named Graham. We had a really good evening there dancing to old 60's songs.
About 15-20 minutes walk from the villa, there is a German War Cemetery where more than 15000 German soldiers lost their lives during the Second World War in the Greek territory. It is so well tended and such a peaceful place to visit.
Another restaurant we visited was 'Lithos' in Chania. Excellent service and food. 100% recommended
All in all we had a wonderful holiday and would totally recommend this villa.
The villa is stunning. Sometimes photos are taken in such a way to make things look larger, but the villa is exactly as it looks in the photos, beautifully restored, tastefully furnished and wonderfully comfortable. It's only a short walk down to the main road where we caught buses and another few minutes down to the beach. We had the best of both worlds, peace and relaxation at the villa and plenty to do just down the road.
Honestly we had he best holiday ever and if you get the chance to snap up this wonderful property I promise you wont be disappointed! Thank you so much Stella, and thank you to the team at Chania Rentals for making my booking and stay so easy and wonderful!
The villa is located in a residential area of Maleme, on a corner plot, and consists of a 2 acre orange orchard, pool house/pool and cottage. The owner has made every effort to style and design the villa in a modern manner. The garden is peaceful and colourful and the pool has a jacuzzi area in one corner which is very relaxing. The pool is not particularly large and at the deepest part is approximately 1.6m which is safe for children of our ages
If you want a relaxing holiday without too much touring then a car hire is not essential for this villa. There are approximately 6 supermarkets, 8 tavernas, a butcher and chemist all within a 5-10 minute walk. The beach front itself is no more than 10 minute walk away and although it is a pebble beach most of the cafe/restaurants allow free use of sunbeds providing you are a customer without any pressure of continued spending. We ate locally most nights and did not have a bad meal at all although service at one was most poor. Tavernas particularly recommended are Malame Taverna on the beach front and Mikes Hotel on the main road. It was extremely cheap to dine out with cost of approximately 50 euros for our family of five which included bread entree, a main course, drinks and fruit.
Bus travel into the main area of Chania is straightforward taking approximately 30 minutes at a cost of 2.30euros each and buses run very frequently. The harbour in Chania is beautiful with plenty of tavernas and shopping opportunities. Our girls enjoyed a tour of Chania on a horse and carriage. A water park at Limnoupolis is also a good day out for young families.
The Cretan people of very generous and welcoming. Our host, Stella, brought us many gifts during our stay including fresh oranges, cakes, biscuits and olive oil.
