Lefteris home dates back to the 18th century. During the German Occupation the house was a hideout for the Cretan rebels. Today it has been restored with respect to tradition and transformed into two adjacent, yet independent villas; Lefteris Villa and Joanna Villa. Great care has been taken to keep the beauty and aura of its original architecture.
The villas are notable for their impressive stone archways and architectural elements of the time hidden in corners and unexpected areas. Each villa has its own high walled courtyard providing privacy. The villas are located in the area of Metochi, 1km away from the historic village Maleme and 10min walk away from the beach.
Joanna villa is 200sq.m, surrounded by a beautiful garden, of which a big part is covered with grass, where a private pool with an integral children’s area and a barbecue are found. The villa has two shaded entrances, both of them under stone arches, where you can relax away from the hot sun of the summer midday.
The villa has three floors. At the ground floor there are the living room with the stone walls and the fireplace, the kitchen and a wc. The first floor consists of a bathroom, a twin bedroom with a private balcony overlooking the pool, a double bedroom with a four-poster bed and an en suite bathroom with jacuzzi and a common bathroom. The entire second floor is a bedroom with a four-poster bed and a private balcony with sea view.
A luxury villa
Joanna Villa and Lefteris Villa are two adjacent, yet, independent luxury villas. The villa has its own pool and a yard with areas covered with grass. It is furnished with fine peaces and equipped with hydro massage.

The owners are perfect hosts. They are very kind and intent that we had everything we needed. As with other reviews we also had a late arrival so Lefteris kindly took us on a late visit to the Supermarket for immediate supplies. We also had a wonderful supply of fresh fruit on arrival which was replenished during our stay.
We found the situation of the Villa at Maleme very good. The Villa is situated in a quiet area in olive groves, but only a short walk down to the sea front with bars, tavernas, shops and the beach itself. The beach is pebbly but sandy underfoot once in the sea. Maleme is a pleasant town. There is regular public transport to Chania and along the coast road. We rented a car as we wanted to explore the area and found numerous places of interest including the Botanical Gardens of Crete, magnificent White mountains ,Acropolis at Polirrinia ,Amphitheatre/ruins at Aptera and a great bird-watching lake [ Agia lake]. There are plenty of beaches to visit within the area.
Thank you very much to Lefteris, Alexandra and family for a lovely stay.
A relaxing stay
The villa is within distance to the local supermarket and the shingle beach (about 15 mins) where you will find plenty of bars and tavernas. The area around Maleme is fairly quiet and even the beach wasn't too busy as there are only a few small resorts lining the beachfront.
A car is recommended to explore the surrounding areas but as this was our first visit to Crete we were happy to relax and unwind at the villa with a few walks down to the beachfront.
The hosts Alexandra and Lefteris were very friendly, welcoming and just a phone call away if needed. On our arrival we were provided with an array of fresh fruit including a huge watermelon as well as freshly squeezed orange juice. Lefteris took us to the local supermarket on our first day to stock up and showed as around the area. He even drove us to Chania on our departure as we were staying there for three nights. Only downside was that the AC broke down a couple of nights which made for uncomfortable sleeping but it didn't spoil our holiday.
We all had a wonderful and unforgettable holiday in Crete. A perfect location for a laid back holiday away from the crowds.
Away from the mad crowds
We were welcomed to the villa by a magnificent selection of local fruit that kept us going all week.
The villa was perfect for us; traditional architecture with modern facilities and loads of space. The hamlet was peaceful but still only an easy walk to the local shop for supplies and sneaky beer (!) and a relaxed amble down to the beach, bars and tavernas.
We had a late return flight and Lefteris and Alexandra arranged a day room and airport tack on our behalf.
All in all an execellent week in a quiet spot with easy access to local sites.
Beautiful villa, lovely peaceful location
I think that it is best suited for those who wish to totally relax. If you have teenagers who wish to wander off to night life, this is not the place for them as the restaurants are a 25 minute walk, and not much is going on.
Chania well worth a visit, and touring round the top part of this lovely island was great. We would definitely visit again.
Downsides, not many. Shower in ensuite was a bit odd, and although there is ample shade which we loved be careful to midge up as I think they may lurk in the beautiful overhanging greenery.
This stay was our 4th now and I am sure we will be back again next year (funds permitting)! This Villa (Joanna) is beautiful, its owners and the local people kind are friendly and caring, the area around Malame is lush and fairly quiet which is just what you need to recharge your batteries and just kick back.
You are welcomed with freshly pressed orange juice and water in the fridge and huge peaches and bunches of local grapes on the kitchen table and if you want some basics (tea coffee sugar milk) there ready for your arrival just drop Alexandra and it will be there before you arrive! Lefteris and Alexandra cant do enough to make your stay trouble free and wanting for nothing.
I get told off for writing these reviews because what you should do when you find a little gem is to keep it to yourself otherwise the word gets out, but it is that good and if you don't believe me try it for yourself ( or the sister Villa (Lefteris) next door I am really confident that you wont be disappointed!
We can't wait to go back
A friend recommended this villa and when we saw the pictures on this website we were smitten. We’re pleased to say that in reality it is every bit as nice as it looks in the photographs, and is very clean throughout. The villa is full of character and has a terrace from each of the three bedrooms with the uppermost one having sea views and a swinging seat to enjoy them from. The added bonus was that our hosts were really lovely, and their marvellous hospitality made our stay even more special.
Everyone on the island was very friendly and helpful with us, but Lefteris and his family went out of their way to make our stay the best that it could be and we had a wonderful holiday. It was our first visit to Crete but it won’t be our last; we’ve already booked Joanna villa for another visit next year and can’t wait to go back.
Joanna's new addition to the garden (fresh herbs) by the BBQ is great for marinating chicken and pork ready for some homemade Souvalaki and treating yourself to some fresh Basil leaves from under the tree was great. Spotlessly clean as usual and we got three cleans and bed changes as we managed a 10 day stay this year.
This has been year 4 on the trot and we are already arranging next years visit so if you have a high stress levels in your daily life and need to recharge this is the place, water babies or kids overflowing with bounce this is the place or if you just want to lay back and wait for a cloud to go by while eating the fresh fruit that Lefteris,Alexandra or Joanna had left, well you can do that too!
Thanks! See you soon Yamas! Xxx
We can't say enough good things about this villa and the hosts.
The villa is impeccably clean, it’s also spacious and he bedrooms are nicely kept and comfortable.
The outside space is fantastic, warm spotlessly clean pool, lovely garden and a large and well planted herb bed!
The garden is great for relaxing in, some days we only ventured out to the local shop to get supplies, there’s shade for every part of the day, a big BBQ and lovely dining area that gets the later evening sun at dinner time, perfect!
The villa is perfectly situated for getting to the beautiful beaches on the west coast, Elafonisi still takes a while to get to but is beautiful and Thalassana is another well worth a visit.
Last but not least our hosts, we could not have asked for a more delightful and helpful couple. Lefteris and Alexandra couldn’t do enough for us they’re always on hand and so welcoming and charming to talk to. They showed us to a great supermarket, put us on to the local butcher, bought us produce from their own farm (and suggested how to cook it) and showed our little one around the farm on the tractor, he loved it, beautiful people!
We rarely holiday in the same place but one day we hope to see Lefteris and Alexandra again (and grandma Joanna and baby Lefteris of course!).
The house is situated in a small village but is near Platanias, a bigger town. Metohi is a good place to start exploring the east side of Crete. A car is recommendable. We really loved our stay and want to thank the owners for their hospitality and help with the dental problems we've experienced, the advise for a restaurant the first evening and picking oranges in their olive plantation.
